Why Leave a Legacy?

By including Living Heritage Foundation in your will, you ensure that your values live on. Your gift β€” no matter the size β€” will continue transforming communities for generations to come.

How It Works

Write us into your will. As a 501(c)(3) organization, including us in your will may allow your estate to subtract the value of assets left to Living Heritage Foundation from the total taxable estate, thus lowering or completely eliminating the federal estate tax your family would have to pay.

Suggested will language: "I give, devise, and bequeath to Living Heritage Foundation, a charitable organization duly organized under the laws of the United States of America (EIN: 86-1358558), with principal offices at 2124 E 154th St., Olathe, Kansas 66062, USA, the sum of $______ (or: _____ percent [___%] of my estate) to be used for its general charitable purposes. It is my hope, without creating a binding legal obligation, that these funds be directed toward the Foundation's programs serving families in Western Guatemala β€” including scholarships, clean water, healthcare, and community development. Should the Foundation cease to exist or no longer carry out its charitable mission, I direct that this bequest be applied to a similar charitable organization selected by the Foundation's Board of Directors."

Flexible alternative. Some attorneys prefer a simpler, more flexible clause that lets us direct your gift where it's needed most:

Flexible will language (discretionary use): "I give, devise, and bequeath [amount, percentage, or remainder] to Living Heritage Foundation (EIN: 86-1358558, 2124 E 154th St., Olathe, Kansas 66062, USA), for discretionary use as to the areas of greatest need, and on a schedule to be determined by Living Heritage Foundation."

Make a Legacy Gift Another Way

You can name us as a beneficiary in your trust, retirement account, or life insurance policy. It's simple, tax-efficient, and doesn't affect your current assets or family obligations. Complete the form below and we can talk it through together.

Already Have a Will? Add a Codicil

If you've already created and executed your will, you don't need to rewrite it. A codicil is a legal document used to make changes to an existing will β€” including adding a gift to Living Heritage Foundation β€” quickly and inexpensively.

Sample codicil wording: "I, (Your Name), a resident of the County of (County Name), State of (State Name), declare that this is a codicil to my last will and testament, which is dated (Date of Last Will). I add to the Specific Gifts of said last will in the following manner: I give, devise, and bequeath $______ to Living Heritage Foundation (EIN: 86-1358558, 2124 E 154th St., Olathe, Kansas 66062, USA) or its successor thereto, to be used for its general purposes. If Living Heritage Foundation does not exist at the time of distribution of this gift, this bequest shall be applied to a similar charitable organization selected by the Foundation's Board of Directors. I hereby reaffirm and redeclare my said last will and testament dated (Date of Last Will) in all respects other than those herein mentioned."

Share your current will with your attorney, and they can draft the codicil for you.
